The Coating Process

After each unit goes through the production plant it then moves to the coating facility. At Tough Country we strive to produce a quality product. For this reason every bumper goes through our 9 stage industrial coating and inspection process to provide the best corrosion protection in the industry. Products such as our front end replacement bumpers are very difficult to coat because of the size, shape, weight, sharp angels, and various material thicknesses. Because it is such a difficult product to coat, we go to great lengths to insure that all products are rust free and any scale is removed by blasting and then hand prepping each unit. Then before we apply the powder we spray a rust preventative agent and steam wash each unit to insure that they stay rust free. Our standard finish on most products is either a high gloss black or a black wrinkle powder coat. Along with our standard finishes we offer many custom color options as well as a bedliner finish. If the bedliner finish is requested, the products still go through the powder coating process and receive a powder base coat for durability and rust prevention. Tough Country not only strives to produce the TOUGHEST bumpers on the road, we also want to have the best looking.

The stages of the coating process are:

  1. Bead blasting
  2. Hand sanding and final preparations
  3. Quality Control inspection
  4. Rust preventative spray
  5. Steam wash
  6. Bake for 20 minutes to dry
  7. Powder application
  8. Bake for 1 hour to cure
  9. Final Quality Control check
